Background

Aku Telat! (I'm Late) is a 2D single player arcade game developed as a final project in a game development bootcamp Game Devlopment by Codelamp Indonesia. The game targets casual players and uses simple mechanics with a cartoon chibi art style. I worked as a Game Artist focusing on background design that supports fast gameplay and clear obstacle visibility.


Result & Takeaways

  • Selected as Best Final Project at the showcase.

  • Delivered complete background assets for two playable levels.

  • Learned how background design affects gameplay readability.

  • Improved collaboration skills with designers and programmers.


⚙️ How we built it

  1. Defined visual theme based on casual arcade genre.

  2. Designed layered 2D backgrounds to create depth.

  3. Created assets with simple shapes and soft colors.

  4. Implemented backgrounds directly into Unity scenes.

  5. Adjusted visuals based on playtesting feedback.



🔜 Evaluation

This project helped me understand the role of background art in supporting game mechanics rather than decoration alone. I learned to balance visual appeal and clarity, especially for fast-paced gameplay. The experience strengthened my ability to design functional game environments within a team and tight timeline.
