Digital Twin Molca Factory

Background

Molca Factory is a compact digital twin demo simulating a real industrial production line using IoT sensors and live machine data. It demonstrates how physical equipment connects to intelligent virtual systems for real time monitoring, predictive analytics, and workflow optimization all within an interactive miniature setup.

Result & Takeaways

This project focused on adapting an existing desktop/tablet dashboard into a mobile layout. The main challenge was translating dense industrial monitoring UI into a compact format without losing clarity or usability. This taught me how to prioritize information hierarchy and rethink navigation when screen real estate becomes limited.

⚙️ How we built it

Since the desktop and tablet versions were already available, I didn’t build the interface from scratch instead, I adapted Molca’s established UI Kit into a mobile landscape format using Figma. My workflow consisted of:

1. Reference Exploration
   Because Digital Twin interface examples are rarely shared publicly, I expanded my reference pool beyond industrial dashboards. I analyzed virtual tour layouts (such as campus and office tours), which share similar
   spatial navigation and monitoring patterns. This helped me define a more intuitive way to guide users through machinery views on mobile.

   

   
   

2. Template Adaptation

   I began by resizing fonts and icons to fit proportionally on smaller sreens. The challenge was not just scaling components, but structuring the layout to maintain readability despite limited screen space.

   

   
   

3. Navigation Restructure

   The desktop layout displayed all menus at once (a full side panel). While effective for large screens, this approach overwhelmed the mobile view and disrupted monitoring focus. I replaced it with a hamburger menu, allowing the main screen to prioritize machine visuals and operational statuses.

If further development continues, I would like to validate whether the redesigned adaptations such as the hamburger navigation, scaled typography, and AI bubble chat actually improve clarity and decision speed for real operators in industrial environments.
