Background
VR Fire Quest is a virtual reality training simulation created by Molca to teach industrial workers firefighting procedures and hazard recognition in a safe, immersive environment. The goal: translate practical safety protocols into a clear, low friction VR interface that supports quick decision-making under stress.
Result & Takeaways
The VR Fire Quest redesign project focused on improving the interface and user experience of an existing VR fire fighting training application. Rather than building from scratch, my goal was to enhance usability and visual clarity within an immersive context.
Through this process, I learned to adapt 2D design systems into spatial layouts while maintaining functionality in 3D space a key challenge for VR design. It also strengthened my understanding of how interface hierarchy and user focus differ when users are fully immersed in a virtual environment.
⚙️ How we built it
As an intern designer, I was assigned to design the interface, making it intuitive, readable, and visually aligned with Molca’s design identity.
he design process was guided by a Game Design Document (GDD) provided by the Product Manager, outlining the gameplay flow, objectives, and UI requirements.
My workflow included:
Benchmark & Negative Case Analysis: I reviewed the previous version of the app to identify pain points such as visual clutter, unclear focus indicators, and inconsistent button hierarchy.
Competitor Analysis: Compared VR fire safety apps to identify best practices in visual cue design and player feedback systems.

Ideation & Template Application: Instead of creating a new system, I adapted Molca’s established design components to ensure consistency across projects.
Visual Development: Produced high fidelity designs of the VR interface, emphasizing readability, accessibility, and interaction clarity.

🔜 What's next
Moving forward, I plan to prototype the designed interface using XR prototyping tools such as ShapesXR by my self to simulate spatial interactions and evaluate usability before full VR development.
